The Greens, SPD and Volt began negotiations on Thursday evening for a renewal of the town hall coalition. Representatives of the respective council groups and parties met at the Grünes Zentrum to discuss key foundations for the negotiations and the first joint steps. Over the coming weeks, the Greens, SPD and Volt will negotiate a new coalition agreement in five thematic working groups.
Andrea Blome, spokesperson for the Greens council group, and Sonja Völker, political director of the Greens' local branch, explain: “Münster faces major challenges. Our city needs more affordable housing, must push ahead with climate protection, must remain an attractive location and must strengthen the alternatives to the car in its transport policy. Together with our partners from the SPD and Volt, and hand in hand with the city administration led by Lord Mayor Tilman Fuchs, we can overcome these challenges and seize the great opportunities for our city's future.”
“We look back on years of reliable cooperation built on trust, which has noticeably moved Münster forward,” explain Lia Kirsch, SPD group leader, and Fabian Schulz, chair of SPD Münster. “Now we want to work out together how we can continue to shape the city over the coming years so that everyone can live well here. It is important to us to keep pursuing policies that strengthen cohesion and open up opportunities for all.”
“We are looking forward to the talks with the Greens and the SPD,” says Volt group leader Maren Berkenheide. “In recent years, we have shown that together we can shape Münster constructively. Now we want to explore how we can develop our city further in a digital, innovative and generally future-proof way.”
