Münster, 29 June 2021 – Last Tuesday, the Volt council group took a look at the current Preußenstadion and the planned measures. Club president Christoph Strässer and Burkhard Brüx of the fans' advisory board showed the group around the grounds. Those present included councillors Helene Goldbeck and Tim Pasch, Sebastian Schlusen and Marlene Elsässer from the Sports Committee (Sportausschuss), Martin Grewer from the field of transport and policy adviser Tim Priggemeyer.
While the council group was being briefed on the stand, both in front of it and up in it, there was also a discussion about access to the facility. The mobility hub and the prospective construction of a railway stop near the stadium attracted considerable interest. Another topic was youth work and the obstacles posed by the football associations.
The renovation of the ageing Preußenstadion has long occupied the city, the club and, in particular, the council. Most recently, the council decided, with Volt's votes among others, to demolish the west stand. This is a first step towards the renovation, but also a first look at the substructure of the stand, the composition of which is still unknown and makes a precise cost estimate difficult. With the new findings, detailed planning is then to begin swiftly. Important criteria here are sustainability, cost-effectiveness and added value for the city and its population.
The upcoming deliberations will show what options there are for the stadium. In view of the long standstill in the stadium's development, Volt is seeking an open and solution-oriented dialogue.
