On the subject of drinking water fountains, Andrea Blome, spokesperson for the Greens' council group, says:
“We have all noticed it during the recent days and weeks of heat: Münster urgently needs drinking water that is reliably available in public spaces around the clock. Anyone out and about in an overheated city, or even living on the streets, must have access to drinking water. It is good that the Green Lord Mayor is taking action here, taking care of this important heat protection measure and bringing funding for drinking water fountains to Münster.”
On the Marktallee fountain, Stephan Brinktrine, leader of the SPD council group, says:
“We are very pleased that residents of Hiltrup are campaigning for the fountain on Marktallee to be brought back into operation. We therefore welcome the fact that Arno Minas, the head of the environment department, stated at the council meeting that he will meet the committed citizens personally and look for a solution for the fountain. When volunteers and the responsible district council get involved in this way and an association offers financial support, it is right to make the issue a top priority and find solutions quickly.”
And Maren Berkenheide, spokesperson of the Volt council group, concludes by emphasising:
“Especially at a time of more frequent, longer and more extreme heatwaves, water in public spaces is essential. The climate catastrophe is advancing in Münster for all to see, which is why an adequate supply of drinking water in particular is becoming ever more important. At the same time, the past few days have made it clear that ornamental fountains and trees cool the microclimate significantly. That is why we, too, support the initiative to bring the fountain in Hiltrup back into operation.”
