The more than 14,000 signatures collected from citizens opposed to converting the junction into one with traffic lights speak volumes.
From the very beginning of the political debate, we have favoured the demands of the “Kreisel statt Ampel” (roundabout instead of traffic lights) initiative regarding modernisation and the detailed measures it proposed.
We continue to believe that an optimised roundabout based on the Dutch model is the best solution for the junction on Von-Esmarch-Straße.
This redesign is not only cost-optimised but also time-efficient.
Our position is based on empirically sound studies¹: an optimised roundabout reduces the risk of accidents for all road users.
We are currently consulting with the other democratic groups on the council in order to find a safe and viable solution quickly that does justice to the concerns of the citizens.
