Münster, 22 March 2025 – The announced shortening of express bus routes S60, S90 and X90, which will in future only run as far as the main station instead of to Bült, has caused displeasure in the Volt council group. The reason, however, is not the measure itself, but the poor communication about it.
“We do not want to learn about such a fundamental decision from the newspaper. It is imperative to involve the Committee for Transport and Mobility (AVM) at an early stage and in a transparent manner,” complains Marcus Wilhelm, a member of the transport committee. “The fact that neither the committee chair nor its members were informed in advance shows that the administration and the RVM have considerable catching up to do when it comes to transparency and participation.”
In terms of content, the council group takes a nuanced view of the measure: “Dropping the Bült stop makes sense from the point of view of a clear route structure. Ultimately, attractive transfer options at the main station are crucial for us to ensure a high level of acceptance among passengers,” adds Sebastian Kappen.
In the long term, the Volt council group is calling for a fundamental reorganisation of public transport. “We need a clear structure with three central transfer points that make public transport in Münster attractive and fit for the future. The main station alone cannot channel all traffic flows in the long run. Our goal must be a strategic realignment based on the model of a tangential network,” Kappen and Wilhelm both emphasise.
The Volt council group therefore calls on the city administration and the RVM to enter into dialogue with the Committee for Transport and Mobility at an early stage in future, in order to make decisions easier to understand and to keep residents fully informed.
