Press statement – current status of the proceedings

In the course of a comprehensive review in spring 2024, the Volt council group in Münster City Council regrettably discovered irregularities in the Volt council group's financial accounts for the period 2021–2023. These were so serious that, after taking advice from criminal lawyers, the Volt council group decided to file a criminal complaint with the Münster Public Prosecutor's Office (Staatsanwaltschaft Münster).

Position 1 minute read

From the council caucus period (2020–2025)

The investigation being conducted by the Münster Public Prosecutor's Office on suspicion of embezzlement (Untreue) to the detriment of the Volt council group is directed, among others, against the former managing director of the Volt council group. The Volt council group has cooperated closely with the Public Prosecutor's Office and has fully supported the investigation and the clarification of the facts. The City of Münster's administration was also informed without delay.

Should the suspicions be confirmed, this would constitute a serious breach of the fiduciary duties entrusted to the former managing director. Nevertheless, as the injured party, the Volt council group maintains that questions of criminal conduct and guilt are to be determined exclusively by the competent criminal courts. The same applies to the amount of the loss caused by the embezzlement.
