Attractive transfers: more than just the main station
We welcome the bold first step towards a new network layout that no longer concentrates routes at the station. This will relieve pressure on the main station hub, and many destinations in the city will be much quicker to reach in future without the often unwanted detour via the station.
“Clearly, a new route network will need better transfer options in future, which we want to develop as part of the fourth Local Public Transport Plan (Nahverkehrsplan),” stresses Marcus Wilhelm, member of the Committee for Transport and Mobility (AVM).
First metrobuses for Münster: a milestone in public transport history
We are therefore very pleased about the introduction of the first two metrobus lines in Münster. These buses run more frequently and set new standards in reliability and comfort. The metrobus system is a centrepiece of our commitment to revolutionising public transport in Münster and providing a sustainable mobility solution for the future. “But it is also clear,” says councillor Martin Grewer, “that this is only the first step. An overall strategy must now follow promptly from the results of the Münster 2035+ Mobility Master Plan (Masterplan Mobilität Münster 2035+) in order to coordinate the new lines optimally.”
Clarity and facts – a response to the CDU in Angelmodde:
The Volt council group is surprised by the recent statements made by the CDU in Angelmodde about this milestone in transport policy. Contrary to what has been claimed, overall no more direct connections are being lost than are being created. On balance, the service is actually growing. The transport corridors
in Angelmodde and Gremmendorf remain unaffected, but a new direct connection to Kinderhaus is now being created. The transfer options are also much more varied than the CDU claims, as there are of course other lines at the main station besides line 8 (in future: line 16) for getting from line 6 (in future: M1) towards the old town. Unfortunately, the CDU Angelmodde has failed to recognise the potential for more frequent services and shorter journey times through the introduction of the metrobus system, a key advantage of this council decision.
